Tutoring in Lapland UAS

For many people, starting to study at a university of applied sciences means moving to a new life situation, which can mean moving to a new place while friends and family stay behind, taking responsibility for their own lives and changing the nature of their studies compared to vocational school or upper secondary school.

As a tutor, you will be able to share your experiences and support new students in their transition to the university community and new life situations. Tutoring is not just a position of trust, but an opportunity to build new friendships, foster a positive atmosphere and help new students find their place in the student community.

Students of Lapland UAS can work as a:

⇒ Online tutor or as a
⇒ Student emissaries (marketing tutors)

The purpose of tutoring is to…

  • be present for the students
  • help the new students to get friends and settle in
  • help students find their place in the school community
  • improve the grouping of a new group
  • create a positive atmosphere
  • share information
  • introduce UAS practices and student life for new students
  • encourage to participate in various events
  • create and develop activities for the students
  • be the voice of students
  • act as student expert

YOU CAN GET CREDITS FOR TUTORING!

The " Peer tutoring / community efficiency" course is a free-choice elective course and can be completed by working as a campus, online or student ambassador (formerly marketing tutor).
The completion of the course requires the student to participate in the tutor training. Students who have completed the training can take tutor assignments, work proactively as a tutor, be a part of the team and gather hours in a tutor log book.
Students cannot enroll by themselves in this " Peer tutoring / community efficiency" course, but the course and its credits are entered into the student's study register after the student has returned his/her log book in accordance with the return instructions.

The course is completed by engaging in tutoring for either 135 or 270 hours.
To receive evaluation and credits (5 or 10), the tutor records all hours in a log book.
Once the hours are completed, the tutor writes a final report on the last page of the log book according to given instructions and submits it for assessment.
Evaluation: Fail/Pass.
